Xiaomi’s Black Shark brand offers some pretty powerful smartphones for the price, as well as a few gaming-focused features. We’ve already seen the Black Shark 2 launch earlier this year, but the company is getting ready for another device.
The brand announced on Weibo earlier today that the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro is coming. Furthermore, an attached poster notes a July 30 reveal date for the gaming phone.
The post doesn’t tell us anything else about the new phone, but the Black Shark Weibo account shared news of the Snapdragon 855 Plus announcement earlier this week. This suggests that the Black Shark 2 Pro will be packing the slightly upgraded flagship processor.
The Black Shark 2 Pro wouldn’t be the only phone packing the Snapdragon 855 Plus though, as Asus has confirmed that the ROG Phone 2 will offer the chipset. Realme has also mentioned the new processor on Weibo, suggesting that it’s got a Snapdragon 855 Plus phone in the works too.
We don’t know much else about the upcoming phone though, but the Black Shark 2 was a pretty impressive device on paper. The previous release packed a 4,000mAh battery, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, 27 watt charging, a Shark Key to enter the phone’s gaming zone, and a 6.39-inch OLED screen with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
We thought the last Black Shark device was a solid purchase, with our own Eric Zeman calling it a good (but not great) phone in his Black Shark 2 review. Eric praised the performance, battery life, and software, but lamented the fixed storage, lack of a 3.5mm port, and limited LTE support. What do you want to see from the Black Shark 2 Pro?
