A 60-year-old Winterville man died in a fire that destroyed his home in the predawn hours of Thursday, according to the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department.
Athens-Clarke Coroner Sonny Wilson identified the man as Keith R. Hodapp, who resided in a mobile home. The body was transported for an autopsy, Wilson said.
The fire department was notified of the fire at 3:19 a.m. by a caller who told the 911 dispatcher that someone was trapped inside the home.

The first unit arrived at 3:27 a.m. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the mobile home, according to the report.
After the fire was brought under control, firefighters searched the dwelling and found the man, firefighters said.
The fire apparently started in the bedroom.
Wilson said investigators are looking at the possibility a space heater started the fire.
“Tragedies like this in our community are difficult for us all. It’s important for everyone to take time and ensure they have working smoke detectors and an emergency plan in place,” according to a statement released by Fire Chief Jeff Scarbrough.
