A Weldon man was arrested and charged with possession of a laptop which was stolen during a business breaking and entering last month.
Chief Christoper Davis of the Weldon Police Department said Aaron Sanchez Stewart, 28, faces a charge of possession of stolen goods.
The breaking and entering in which the laptop was stolen occurred on April 27 shortly before 7:45 a.m. at a business in the 800 block of Country Club Road.
Officer T. Revis discovered a suspect entered the building by breaking glass out of the backdoor and took an undisclosed amount of money as well the laptop.
On Saturday shortly before 3 p.m. Corporal S. McKimmey received information from the owner of the laptop on its possible whereabouts.
The owner had initially contacted Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin about the computer. Roanoke Rapids assisted Weldon in the apprehension of Stewart.
Stewart was located in the 1200 block of Snead Street and was placed under arrest. He was taken before a magistrate and received a $1,000 unsecured bond with a June 15 court date.
Sergeants T. Mason and L. Melton assisted.
“I would like to give a special thanks to Chief Martin for his assistance with this case,” Davis said. “This is just another example of how working together works.”
This breaking and entering case remains under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
