Science & Technology

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Game that Ohio State football has anxiously waited for has finally arrived.
The Buckeyes focus on it’s rival Michigan every day of the week, but last season, for the first time in a decade, it didn’t lead to a win at the end of the season, ruining all of their plans. They want to beat their rival, win the Big Ten title and win a national title, but none of that is possible without that first one.
It’s a year later and the rivalry is at an all-time high for every reason you can think of.
The Wolverines’ win last season put them in the driver’s seat for the first time, and they used it to throw out plenty of bulletin board material. It’s also been four years since The Game was played in Columbus thanks to COVID-19 leading to its cancelation in 2020. There are even individual legacies on the line, whether that’s Ryan Day trying to keep from going 1-2 in the rivalry or C.J. Stroud becoming the first starting quarterback to never beat Michigan in almost 30 years.
Then you add on top of that the fact that both teams come into this weekend 11-0 for the first time since 2006, paving the way for The Game of the Century Part II.
OSU’s been in this position before under Day, feeling like a whole season was dedicated to revenge. The 2020 season was about getting another crack at Clemson after losing to the Tigers in the Fiesta Bowl in controversial fashion. It got a second chance and made the most of it.
This game is all of that, but on the strongest steroids you can think of. The Buckeyes lost to their rival in a way that has made the world question everything about the direction the program is headed. They spent the summer listening to all of that while patiently waiting for Nov. 26 to arrive.
That day has come, along with a chance at redemption.
“It’s gonna be the most physical game you’ve ever played in your life,” Day said in the game-day trailer. “If you come to Ohio State, you come to play in this game right here. That’s it. It’s really why you come here. To play in this one right here.”
