For the first time ever, the most prestigious Dota 2 tournament, The International, will take place in Southeast Asia.
Players from Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines, and more are just one flight away from seeing their favorite teams and players up close with no visa restrictions to worry about.
TI1 in 2011 was held in Cologne, Germany, followed by TI2 to TI7 from 2012 to 2017 in Seattle, the United States, just nearby Valve’s headquarters. TI8 took place in Vancouver, Canada in 2018, succeeded by TI9 in Shanghai, China. In 2020, Valve canceled the annual tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and recommenced TI10 the following year in Bucharest, Romania.
While the proximity of TI11’s main event is great news, the cost of the whole experience of attending The International 2022 will surely break SEA fans’ wallets. There is an ongoing worldwide increase in inflation, which began in 2021 mainly attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which may have drastically affected this year’s TI ticket prices that doubled since TI10.
Considering all of the above, is it worth traveling all the way to witness peak Dota 2 unfold right before your eyes? We break down TI11 prices, how much money you need to spend, and the requirements and documents you need to enter Singapore for The International 2022.
Only fully-vaccinated travelers may enter the country and would need to present the following requirements according to Singapore Tourism Board:
The International 2022’s Main Event has two phases — Playoffs and Finals.
TI11 Playoffs will take place from October 20 to 23 at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre at Raffles Boulevard. Tickets are priced at SGD$88 per day, which means attending all four days would amount to SGD$352.
Here’s a sample expense breakdown if you’re planning to attend Playoffs as a fan coming in from the Philippines. To save money, we considered accommodation that’s less than a 10-minute walk to the venue.
We also added two days to the sample itinerary to give attendees ample time for arrival and departure before and after the Playoffs.
Since TI11 Finals falls on a weekend, expect airline ticket prices to be more expensive. Nearby accommodation will also cost higher since there are limited hostel options around Singapore Indoor Stadium, so you’ll likely end up in a budget hotel instead.
