There are lots of films to enjoy that have fast cars, explosions, fights, and sharp one-liners. While one or two may have some interesting and deeper themes, action films are usually just meant to entertain, and Hulu certainly has many of them to stream.

1. Wolf Warrior 2

Wolf Warrior 2 Hulu action movie

One of the biggest box office hits of all time, Wolf Warrior 2 is an epic action movie that, if you live in the U.S., you most likely have never heard of. This 2017 film from China features Wu Jing (who also wrote and directed the movie) as a former Chinese Army army soldier who now works as a mercenary. In the movie, he has to protect a medical group in Africa from an opposing force of mercs, lead by “Big Daddy,” who is played by American actor Frank Grillo. The movie has tons of high-octane action set-pieces, and that’s thanks in part to the movie’s partnership with Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Marvel movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The duo consulted on the movie and even allowed their movie stunt team to help create the big action sequences. Wolf Warrior 2 ended up making $874 million, mostly in China, but you can catch this Hollywood-level action movie on Hulu right now.

2. Under Siege

Under Siege Hulu action movies

Before Steven Seagal was regulated to the direct-to-video pile of C-rated actors, he was one of the biggest box office stars back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. By far his best film was the 1992 flick Under Siege, which was frequently described at the time as “Die Hard on a ship.” Seagal plays a former Navy SEAL who serves as the cook aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, a battleship that’s close to being decommissioned. However, a team of mercs, lead by the perfectly cast Tommy Lee Jones, manages to take over the ship in an effort to unload its nuclear missiles so they can be sold to the highest bidder. Seagal is the only one that can stop Jones and his band, which also includes Gary Busey as the ship’s traitorous executive officer. Seagal never made another film nearly as good as this one.

3. The Punisher

The Punisher

One of the most grounded characters in Marvel Comics, The Punisher has been adapted into movies three times, but the best was this 2004 release. Thomas Jane is perfect as Frank Castle, who sees his entire family executed by a mob family, led by John Travolta’s Howard Saint, who blames Castle for the death of his own son. There are no superpowers on display here. The Punisher is a gritty crime action movie, as Castle goes on a one-man war against everyone in organized crime.

You can also watch the third live-action Punisher movie, Punisher War Zone, on Hulu as well. It was first released in 2008, and stars Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle. Some people actually prefer this movie to the 2004 film, but we think gives has the better performance.

4. Point Break

Point Break Hulu action film

Forget that recent, and awful, 2015 remake. The original 1991 Point Break is a perfect example of a 1990s action film. It has big stars in Keanu Reaves as the young FBI agent who infiltrates the surfing community of LA, in the hopes of finding a group of bank robbers who he thinks hides among the surfers. Patrick Swayse is excellent as Reaves’s nemesis, the leader of the surfing gang who (spoiler alert) is discovered to be the main man behind this crime spree. There are tons of iconic action movie moments in Point Break (who can forget Reaves’ reaction as Swayse gets away from him?) and while the premise is a little unlikely, it’s still a lot of fun to watch.

5. Minority Report

Minority Report Hulu action movies

Tom Cruise starred in his first proper sci-fi movie with this Steven Spielberg directed movie from 2002. Cruise plays a cop in near-future Washington D.C., where he leads the Precrime division. The idea is to use three psychics to help predict if a murder is about to take place and to prevent it from happening. Things start to go wrong when Cruise discovers that the psychics predict he will commit murder, forcing him to go on the run and attempt to expose the dark secret behind Precrime. Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, Minority Report is highly entertaining as Cruise battles his own Precrime team with some spectacular action sequences. Yes, we even see the trademark “Tom Cruise running” in this flick.

6. Independence Day

Independence Day Hulu aciton film

This 1996 box office blockbuster borrows heavily from both the sci-fi and disaster movie genre, but the final result is an action film that includes some excellent moments of its own. Massive alien ships park over major cities on Earth and proceed to destroy them completely. It’s up to what’s left of the human race to combat this seemingly unstoppable threat from annihilating all life on the planet. It’s big, and slightly dumb, but Independence Day still packs a wallop over 20 years later. It helps that this movie has some great performances by Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman, all of whom portray real characters that the audience can relate to, even as they face off against the alien invaders.

7. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra Hulu action movie

After the success of the Transformers movie, Hasbro helped to launch another one of its 1980s toy brands, G.I. Joe, to the movies in 2009 with The Rise of Cobra. Directed by The Mummy’s Stephen Sommers, this film brought in the basic premise of the toy line, comic book, and animated series of the 1980s. G.I. Joe is the code name for a multi-national strike force who have to fight off world threats. In this case, the threat is the team’s opposite number, Cobra, a highly funded and technologically advanced terrorist group. Many of the main characters from the G.I. Joe toy line are brought into the movie’s plot, which has Cobra trying to destroy Moscow and Washington D.C. with a special warhead that literally eats metal. Is the movie a bit goofy? Yes. Is it still fun to watch? Absolutely.

8. F/X

This cool action-thriller from 1986 stars Bryan Brown as a movie makeup and special effects man. However, his latest gig isn’t for a film; he’s been recruited to help simulate the assassination of a mob boss who, in reality, is supposed to testify for the FBI. It wouldn’t be a movie if that was all there was to this movie’s plot and things are not as they seem. We also get to see a strong performance from Brian Dennehy as a NYPD detective who is trying to figure all of this out. You can also catch the not-quite-as-good 1991 sequel to this movie, F/X 2, on Hulu as well.

9. Con Air

Ah, Con Air. This 1997 movie may not be on many people’s “best movie” list, but in the 22 years since its release, it has become something of a cult classic. That’s due in part to the performances of Nicolas Cage and John Malkovich. Cage plays a convict (wrongly imprisoned, of course) who is finally getting out of jail and wants to reunite with his wife and daughter. He’s put on a plane that full of other hardened criminals, including Malkovich’s character, who, along with a number of others, manage to hijack the plane in hopes of fleeing the country. It’s up to Cage to stop their plans. There’s plenty of shooting and explosions, but the sheer delight of this movie is seeing how Cage and Malkovich bounce off each other. It’s definitely one of the dumbest, but also best action movies on Hulu.

10. Mission Impossible III

The Mission Impossible series (based on the 1960s TV show) started strong with the first film, but the second entry didn’t perform as well with critics (even though it was a major box office hit). For Mission Impossible III in 2006, main actor and producer Tom Cruise recruited none other than J. J. Abrams to co-write and direct. Abrams was best known at the time as a TV creator for shows like Felicity, Alias, and Lost. This would be his first feature film and he nailed it perfectly. Cruise’s character of IMF agent Ethan Hunt is no longer out in the field, and he’s about to marry the love of his life. However, circumstances interfere with that plan and Hunt has to rescue a former trainee of his from a criminal organization. There’s a lot more to this plot, of course, but the main things we want to see in a Mission Impossible movie are all there — huge action set-pieces, deception and trickery, and Tom Cruise running really fast (again).
