T-Mobile data breach $350M class action settlement – Top Class Actions

Science & Technology

T-Mobile agreed to pay $350 million as part of a settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent a data breach that affected 76 million Americans.
The settlement benefits individuals whose information was compromised in the T-Mobile data breach announced Aug. 16, 2021.
In August 2021, T-Mobile announced it had been the victim of a data breach that compromised sensitive information of current, former and prospective customers. The breach did not affect financial information but did compromise sensitive personal identifiers such as names, addresses, dates of birth, ID information and even some Social Security numbers.
“We spend lots of time and effort to try to stay a step ahead of them, but we didn’t live up to the expectations we have for ourselves to protect our customers,” T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert said in the data breach announcement. “Knowing that we failed to prevent this exposure is one of the hardest parts of this event.”
Consumers quickly took legal action against T-Mobile, arguing the company failed to live up to its promises that consumers can trust it with their sensitive information.
Plaintiffs in the case argue that the data breach could have been prevented or mitigated through reasonable cybersecurity measures but, due to T-Mobile’s negligence, occurred due to subpar protections.
T-Mobile hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $350 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the T-Mobile settlement, class members can collect a cash payment.
Class members can receive reimbursement for up to $25,000 unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses. This includes payments for credit monitoring, identity theft, fraud, other expenses and up to 15 hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour, or class members’ documented hourly wage if they took time off work.
Class members who do not wish to make a claim for lost time or out-of-pocket expenses can receive an alternative payment of $25 or $100 if they lived in California on Aug. 1, 2021.
Class members can also receive two years of identity protection services through Pango. These services include TransUnion credit monitoring, monthly credit scores, real time authentication alerts, dark web monitoring, transaction monitoring, $1 million in identity theft insurance and other benefits.
In addition, the settlement provides additional restoration services for class members who suffer from identity theft or fraud as a result of the data breach.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 8, 2022.
The final approval hearing for the T-Mobile data breach settlement is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2023.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 23, 2023.
The settlement benefits individuals whose information was compromised in the T-Mobile data breach announced Aug. 16, 2021.
Up to $25,000
It is important for you to send documents that show what happened and how much you lost or spent, so that you can be reimbursed. The specific documentation required for each type of loss is listed on the claim form.
NOTE: If you do not qualify for this settlement do NOT file a claim.
Remember: you are submitting your claim under penalty of perjury. You are also harming other eligible Class Members by submitting a fraudulent claim. If you’re unsure if you qualify, please read the FAQ section of the Settlement Administrator’s website to ensure you meet all standards (Top Class Actions is not a Settlement Administrator). Add me my ph has been faulty every with issues since I got it so I switched to metro pcs which is still TMobile
On 9/14/21 my iphone ( T mobile carrier ) was disabled as I could not make a call , can’t receive calls , can’t text n could not send text . I reported to T Mobile n was told by CS he could not fix it on his end but will send me new SIM card as it’s my SIM card that needs to be reactivated . On that same day 9/14/21 , I got an alert by JPMorgan Chase bank where my funds are deposited in my email that there was wire transfer of $ 30,000 . When I checked my savings and checking account , a total of $ 30,000 was missing leaving balance of less than $ 100.00 . I reported to fraud department of Chase who escalated my case to legal dep’t of Chase which up to now have no resolution to the $ 30k wire transfer definitely not made by me but $ 30 k transferred to Bank of America in Arizona .
When I reviewed my online transaction history in T Mobile on 9/14/21 , there were approximately 24 calls made to Chase in 3 hours and 20 minutes . When I complained to T mobile and asked to talk to supervisor of T Mobile , nobody ever called me back .
After a month , When I went back to check transaction history on my t mobile online dated 9/14/21 , I was surprised that all the calls / transactions which I saw on 9/14/21 in t mobile transaction history were deleted . However I screen shot all these calls n documented those calls before t mobile deleted those transactions . It is definitely a case of identity theft . T mobile has all my confidential info n have access to my SIM card.
Please include me in the class action suit . I will fill up form .
Thank you .

I ordered phone online through T Mobile. All sounded real good. Told them I wanted automatic payment setup. When we recieved our phones.. we could not get them to hook up. Had to go to the store. When asked what I was doing wrong. They informed me that the sims cards was outdated. So they released l replaced then with new ones. Got our phones writing. Again I asked about auto deduct. It was suppose to have been set up. Next thing we notice is that we can’t stay hooked up. So I call customer support. Just got the runaround from them. They explained that I need to get internet. So I agreed. At first it worked great. Then it went down hill fast. To the point that I could not even make a call or go on internet. Called again. Same crap. Then we get an overdraft from our bank. Only to find out that they charged üs for late charge on our bill. Even though we had set up auto deduct. After several calls to this company. I was finally explained that we should not have even been excepted as customer. Because we we on the farthest edge of there service. I have didn’t many hrs on the phone with this company. And have Gorin several overdrafts from them. All of them because they had a number wing to my account and the bank denied payment. This was not my fault they put the wrong numbers in
