The Baltimore Ravens aren’t usually heavy spenders in free agency, but they have all the reason to go after New York Jets offensive tackle Morgan Moses in 2022.
Many believe the Ravens will seek the most reinforcements in the trenches this offseason, and if that’s the case, Baltimore should definitely consider giving Moses a call.
The 31-year-old tackle won’t make the Ravens’ offensive line any younger, but he has an excellent track record and could plug in immediately as a much-needed starting right tackle. Moses is set to enter free agency this week and serves as one player the Jets could afford to part ways with in 2022.
The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec took a look at three free agent targets for the Ravens and claimed the Jets offensive tackle would be the best-value signing. He wrote:
“Moses probably won’t come cheap and if he signs, he’d almost certainly do it as the starting right tackle. But there’s a lot to be gained for the Ravens by adding a quality and reliable performer on the edge, especially with Ronnie Stanley and Ja’Wuan James both being health questions.”
Zrebiec also named safety Tyrann Mathieu as a “pipe dream” and tight end O.J. Howard as a player the Ravens should keep its eye on.
Moses spent most of his eight-year NFL career in Washington before joining the Jets in 2021, and this past season he started in 16 games and finished with a respectable 71.0 overall PFF grade.
Aside from his rookie year, Moses hasn’t missed a single game, and that kind of durability should be seen as a huge asset for the Ravens.
Baltimore’s current offensive line already features established players like Ronnie Stanley, Kevin Zeitler, and Patrick Mekari, and while Mekari possesses the versatility to plug and play anywhere on the line, right tackle remains a bigger need than other positions.
The Ravens have the rehabilitating Ja’Wuan James on the right side, whose health and performance will stay in question throughout the summer, and adding Moses would boost the offensive line while also ensuring James isn’t rushed back into a starting position.
Protecting Lamar Jackson is rightfully at the top of Baltimore’s priorities this offseason, and the Ravens have the money to afford a high-caliber tackle like Moses.
Other linemen like La’el Collins and Ryan Jensen also present quality upgrades, but Morgan Moses makes sense, too. As long as the Ravens make at least one move in free agency to improve the offensive line, we’ll be happy.
