Thane: Ketaki Chitale, a Marathi actor, was arrested in Navi Mumbai for sharing a derogatory post against NCP chief Sharad Pawar on social media. The Thane police had registered a case over the matter.

The post in Marathi addresses the surname Pawar and the age of 80. Sharad Pawar is 81. In the post, she also wrote expressions like “hell is waiting” and “you hate Brahmins”.

A man named Swapnil Netke filed a complaint against the actor at the Kalwa police station. NCP has filed a complaint in Pune as well.

The case was registered under sections 500 (defamation), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory), 505 (2) (making, publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report promoting enmity, hatred or ill will between classes), 153 A (spreading disharmony among people).

The post was allegedly written by someone else and shared by the 29-year-old actor. In Dhule, a case was registered against Chitale and one Nitin Bhave, who had allegedly written the post.

Meanwhile, Pawar said he had no idea who the woman was and what the case was all about. “I don’t know the person and also have no idea about what you are saying (about the actress’s post),” he was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

A group of women threw ink on her outside a Navi Mumbai police station.

In his complaint to Thane Police, Netke had said that Chitale’s defamatory post caused outrage among party leaders.
