According to a new rumor stemming from “reliable inside sources” speaking with BGR, the upcoming Google Pixel 4 and Google Pixel 4 XL will have more RAM than the Pixel 3 series.

The Google Pixel 3 family of devices — including the two Pixel 3a devices — only have 4GB of RAM. Google has received quite a bit of flak for this, considering competitor devices at lower price points include 6GB or even 8GB of RAM.

According to BGR’s sources, both the Pixel 4 and 4 XL are expected to have 6GB of RAM. It’s possible the Pixel 4 XL will have more than 6GB of RAM, but it’s unlikely either device will have less than 6GB.

Hopefully, this will help prevent memory management issues we’ve seen on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

Elsewhere in BGR’s report, its sources suggest that the display resolutions of the Pixel 4 smartphones will get a bump as well. The Pixel 4’s display resolution could be 2,280 x 1,080, as compared to the Pixel 3, which had a 2,160 x 1,080 resolution. Meanwhile, the larger Pixel 4 XL could have a resolution of 3,040 x 1,440, a slight upgrade over the 2,960 x 1,440 resolution on the Pixel 3 XL.

These alleged resolutions suggest the aspect ratios of the Pixel 4 series will be slightly taller than the 18:9 ratio of the Pixel 3 and the 18.5:9 ratio of the Pixel 3 XL.

While these should just be seen as rumors at this point, it is very likely that Google will bump the amount of RAM in its Pixel phones. It would be very difficult to sell a 2019 flagship with just 4GB of RAM considering no flagship this year has less than 6GB. Even the “budget” Samsung Galaxy S10e starts at 6GB of RAM.
