The National Hockey League has extended its short COVID-19 pandemic pause by one day, postponing all 14 games on Monday, including the Vegas Golden Knights vs Colorado Avalanche game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Thursday’s Golden Knights vs the LA Kings on Thursday was postponed as part of the NHL pause before the holiday break. The NHL has called off 50 games because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed 808,000 Americans since March 2020. NHL players will also not participate in the Winter Olympics in 2022 because of the surge of virus cases from the new Omicrom variant.
A surge in COVID-19 cases amid teams, leagues and college sports have caused all types of postponements as COVID infections soar. The Hawaii Bowl, for example, was scrubbed Friday because the Hawaii team had too many coronavirus cases. Texas A&M dropped out of the Gator Bowl Dec. 31 because of COVID cases, but Rutgers came off the bench to play Wake Forest.
The Las Vegas Raiders’ home game against Denver is still scheduled for Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.

USC and UCLA also announced postponements of basketball games originally scheduled for New Year’s weekend.
Meanwhile, the NHL released this announcement Friday afternoon.

The NHL postponed 14 games Monday, including the VGK vs Colorado game in Las Vegas.
