Starting big seasons for both clubs, Chelsea will face Everton in their respective season opener of the 2022/23 English Premier League (EPL) season at Goodison Park on Saturday (August 6). Both sides will be looking to make a winning start to their campaign with both looking for a better season than their previous campaign.

This match will mark the start of Everton’s first full season with Frank Lampard in charge. The Englishman who is regarded as Chelsea’s greatest ever player and also managed them in the past took charge of the Merseyside club earlier this season.

As far as Chelsea are concerned, this season will be their first in the post-Roman Abramovich era. Following the war in Ukraine, the Russian was sanctioned by the UK government which led to him being forced to sell the club. Both sides are still active in the transfer market and expected to bring in more players before the window closes at the end of this month.

The London-based club has already made some impressive signings with Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Marc Cucurella joining the club. They also lost the services of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger after their contracts came to an end meanwhile after a turbulent first season, Romelu Lukaku was loaned out to Inter Milan. Everton also lost a key player with Richarlison joining Tottenham Hotspur.

The two sides met each other at the same venue in the latter half of last season. Everton stunned Chelsea 1-0 and were given a major boost in their race to fight relegation.
