In the opening seconds of the bout, Kakran conceded two pints. However, she displayed brilliant skills and managed to lay down Lemalie’s shoulders on the mat. She had beaten Cameroon’s Blandine Nyeh NGIRI in the repechage round. In the quarter-finals, she went down to Nigeria’s Blessing Oboruddu in the women’s 68 kg freestyle quarter-final.
Sakshi Malik clinched the gold medal in the women’s wrestling freestyle 62Kg. It was her third consecutive medal at the quadrennial event and the first gold. In the final, she defeated Canada’s Ana Gonzalez. The third gold medal in wrestling came from Deepak Punia. Deepak defeated Pakistani wrestler Muhammad Inam in the final of the men’s 86kg category. He won the match 3-0.
Anshu Malik won the silver medal in the Women’s 57 kg category. In the final. she was defeated by Nigeria’s Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye. Mohit Grewal won the second bronze medal for India in the men’s freestyle 125 kg category.
