MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Two children were shot at a home on Clark Street late Tuesday night.
The two boys are doing ok, and their mother tells WKRG News 5 the oldest brother is a hero for trying to protect his younger brother from the gunshots.
“I can’t even close my eyes, all night long,” said Bethelyn Crawley, the children’s grandmother.
The boys were staying at Crawley’s home Tuesday night. Crawley says she heard at least twenty gunshots when her nine year old grandson started yelling he’d been shot.
“I just grabbed him and my other grandbaby and we all went to the floor,” said Crawley.
Nine-year-old Kentavis Pettite and six-year-old Brandon Bonner Jr. were hit by the bullets.
“Two innocent kids got shot, almost killed by high-powered rifles,” said Brandon Williams, the father of the six-year-old.
According to Mobile Police, the shooting happened at around 11:47 p.m. Police said the injuries to the 9-year-old and 6-year-old were not life-threatening. One was shot in the ankle. The other was hit in the shoulder.
“It’s senseless, it’s meaningless. Two innocent children got touched up for nothing you know,” said Williams.
“Whoever who did this is a real coward, and they don’t got no concept for human life,” said Keyonta Petite, the father of the nine-year-old.
The boys have been through surgery and are doing ok, but Crawley says her grandsons are traumatized.
“These were innocent bystanders, I don’t know why they would shoot up in my house like that and if they have a problem with anybody in my house, they should have handled that a different way,” said Crawley.
The family says they wish for whoever did this to turn themselves in.
Investigators are working to identify a person of interest.
